Built in 1405 as a secondary palace of the Joseon dynasty, Changdeokgung later served as the kings’ principal residence for about 270 years after its reconstruction in 1610. Its halls and Secret Garden follow the site’s natural terrain, creating the harmony of architecture and landscape recognized by UNESCO in 1997.
